ALFALFA

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is considered the perennial forage par excellence.

Its great ability to adapt to different soil and climatic conditions makes it cultivable in almost all Italian agricultural areas, both in the plains and in the hills, however finding the optimal conditions for growth and development in deep soils, both clayey and medium-textured and with optimal pH between 6.5 and 8.0.

The only two truly limiting conditions for the development of alfalfa are the presence of stagnant water and the persistence of too high acidity in the soil.

There are many uses of this fodder; it can be used both for hay and dehydrated forage, for silage and as dehydrated flour.
