SUMMER GRASSES
In this category, we take into consideration species and mixtures suitable for sowing in late spring and/or summer, therefore they fit perfectly into a second harvest after a winter herb or a grain cereal. Depending on the geographical area, the sowing date may vary from April 15th to August 15th. They are generally rustic species and suitable for high temperatures.
Despite having lower water requirements than corn, they are species that require good water availability.
Multi mowing or single mowing, the farmer has various possibilities at his disposal.
ATTENTION!
For the forage sorghum and Sudangrass species (Sudanese grass) the concentration of prussic acid is very high at the young stage and therefore contraindicated for consumption by animals.
The plants must reach a minimum height of 70/80 cm to be used for fodder and consumed by livestock.
On the other hand, fodder pearl millet does not have this drawback and can be consumed very young.
